Abstract: Anticancer antibiotics, anthracyclines, may cause severe left ventricle systolic dysfunction that is associated with poor clinical prognosis.Anticancer antibiotics, anthracyclines, may cause severe left ventricle systolic dysfunction that is associated with poor clinical prognosis. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms and risk factors of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity and cardiomyopathy, among which the cumulative administered dose of anthracyclines and concurrent cardiovascular diseases are the most important. We also present strategies for primary and secondary prevention of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity via rigorous assessment of early signs of left ventricular dysfunction.
